    Are Massages Worth it?

Well apparently it is “Everybody Deserves a Massage Week”! First off, I had no idea that this was even a thing, secondly, say no more! Massages as simple as they are, is an amazing tool to have in the self care toolkit. In its most simplest definition a massage is the act of kneading and rubbing the body with the hands. During a massage pressure is placed on various parts of the joints, muscles and body to release pain + tension. We are talking a physical, emotional and mental type of self-care when it comes to massages. Massages are much more than just a way to relax or a very…

Are you Exhausted? Self -Care Tips for Exhausted Empaths

Being an Empath can be challenging in general, but right now more than ever it is EXHAUSTING. Not to be confused with just having empathy which is surface level, the ability to understand or share feelings of others. Being an empath or a highly sensitive person goes much deeper than understanding feelings and emotions that don’t belong to you. As an empath we hold space for others; their emotions and energies take up space within our bodies + minds while sometimes displacing our own emotions and feelings. So to keep it simple to understand an empath, if you feel it they feel it. Having the ability to have an open…

    Taking Care of You

I am a big believer in the idea that everything happens for a reason. That series of events are all connected in one way or another.  Over the last few weeks we have been taking inventory.  Making space for peace in so many different aspects of our lives.  Cleansing internally and externally in our homes, creating space for more Joy, Hope, PEACE. If you have been following along with me on my journey, then you know that we have been preparing for this exact moment in time. We have been doing the work internally on ourselves in order to be equipped to keep our peace within.   In light of the…

    Breathing Deep

Big inhale in through the nose, filling up the lungs. Open mouth exhale slowly allowing the breath to leave the lungs. Do this twice more, taking your time to inhale deeply and exhale fully. Did you know breathing is part of our life force? That stress + anxiety can be reduced and managed through your breath? In times of stress or anxiety the way that we breath can be affected, causing us to breathe at a shorter and faster rate. This increase in the pace or rate of your breathing causes you to take in less oxygen which of course adds more to your stress and anxiety.  Slowing your breathing…

    Planthood 101: Before you buy

As we enter day 673 of quarantine (I kid, I kid, no really what day is IT?), I am seeing more and more people embrace DIY’s, crafts and even Planthood. I love to see it! I myself have dabbled a little here and there on the crafts + DIY front. And honestly Ive failed miserably at a few DIYs but that is a post for a different day. Ive been a proud member of the Planthood tribe for a while now and I am so very happy to see so many people use this “down” time to embrace their green thumb. Now while you may be thinking of taking the…

    Self Care : Quarantine Edition

Depending on where you live, you may have been stuck inside for at least a week. Here in Charlotte NC we have been home for a little over 2 weeks with 28 days to go (as of now). If you know me then you know that Self Care is my jam, my love language + the way that I take care of my mental, physical and emotional well being. Self Care is so much more than a mani pedi. (Truth moment, I wouldn’t turn down a pedicure right now) Taking the time to take care of you is always important. Especially right now during this season of isolation + less…

    Making Sleep A Priority

Getting a good nights sleep is a form of self care for me. I have a sweet spot, its 7 hrs. After 7 solid hours of sleep at night I am a wonderful human being ready to kick ass. If I get anything less than 6 hrs, I’m still quite pleasant BUT the fuse is very very short. Now at this point in our lives I’m sure we all know the benefits of getting a solid amount of sleep each night. I’m also pretty sure we are all aware of the health benefits of being rested. The real question is how many of us are actually taking the steps to…

    How to Practice Body Positivity

Now a days there is so much talk about body positivity and loving the skin you are in… but how did we even get to this point? How did we come to the idea that we must be told to love our bodies? More importantly, how to practice body positivity once we know we need it? Remember when you were a kid and didn’t have a care in the world? No cares about how you looked, what you wore or that maybe your hair didn’t stay as flat as so and so’s (My hair to this day NEVER stays flat) A few weeks back I took my now DramaTeen (formerly…

You are what you eat: Reducing Stress through the Gut

How many stress eaters do we have out there? What about those of you who get so stressed that you cant even eat? I use to be somewhere in the middle. Not too long ago there was a time when I felt stressed and nothing but a big ole bowl of pasta could fix it. Sadly I also swung to the other extreme where I would stress to the point that I neglected to eat or take proper care of myself. Talk about both ends of the spectrum, am I right? Anxiety is a sign and symptom of stress + stress can present itself in whatever way it wants from…
